I though the same when I did research for my next car. EV purchase incentives and gas savings almost outweigh the large insurance increase, which is not factored in here. EVs can be totaled out if there is any suspected damage to the battery, as they are considered non-serviceable parts and total battery replacement is often the only official repair method.
