Why Getting Back to the Office Is Essential to Managing the Retention Crisis (entrepreneur.com)

Ah. Remote work is allowing workers to look at what they’re doing without the distraction or support of “the office”. I can see how middle-layer managers resent the loss of control/activity, but the workers do work and the team leaders can lead virtually.

On-boarding can be a problem, but this is balanced by a far wider hiring reach. Sites without unique tools will probably notice this less. It won’t work for a team of extroverts but I suspect the target audience of this site and discussion are more introverted. Focus vs. Flashes of inspiration and all that.

Yeah, some people have their whole social construct based on work, but it really isn’t healthy carrying the college lifestyle forever. Responsibility comes eventually.

This article firmly assumes that remote employees are unable to communicate effectively ("remote-only employees lack the chance to build and cement professional relationships across the organization"), nostalgically expecting, for example, teams that "learn by osmosis". It's clearly a projection of the feelings of lazy managers in inadequate organizations, who want their power back.
