It will be interesting to benchmark the new Razer laptops against these new MacBook Pros. On paper the Razer will seemingly far outperform the MBP, at the same size, at actually cheaper cost. That being said, I'll wait for benchmarks to draw final conclusions.
Twitter… consider this:
The 3rd-party experiences are simply better than your native ones, and not because of their lack of ads. Additionally, your own Tweetdeck and (seemingly abandoned) Twitter for Mac don't display ads.
Twitter's support for Twitter power users, like those who use Tweetdeck has been abysmal. After buying it out, they turned off a bunch of great features the original client had and now rarely issue any updates. I assume they are trying to drive visitors to use the 'official' Twitter site, but it just doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
No Tweetdeck user views ads, even though Twitter owns and operates the software. The only alternative for PC users is Hootsuite, and it is browser based. For anyone who wants to have multiple columns open at the same time or have notifications of direct messages or @replies, Tweetdeck is (essentially) the only game in town.
Presumably it would display the same "There's no news; you should add some more friends!" message you get when you've first signed up and skipped the friend-recommendation step.
Reliability and Monkey Brains is not something I'd put in the same sentence. It's a pretty regular occurrence for it to go down at our office, even after moving to a new space, several streets down.
"Scrolling and animation tasks are jerky or just plain slow. I can’t deal with that in a new machine. Maybe in a year or two when it can drive its screen and a large external retina smoothly."
What? Has the author used one recently? These problems were fixed within a month of original release. I've been using one for over a year and love it.
They did fix some of the issues (and continue to), but I just don't think the hardware has the capacity to make it right. There are all kinds of graphical lagging, jerking, and stuttering in my completely-maxed-out-with-all-upgrades latest model Retina MacBook Pro, when using it with 30" external monitors.
Like using Exposé with a couple dozen apps open is like:
- Hit button
- Wait... thinking... thinking...
- Still thinking... wait for it...
- OK, here is the Exposé mini-window view, sans animation
EDIT: AND, I should add, my monitors are the old stone-age 2560x1600 type of 30-inch, not the awesome modern high-res type ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DJ4BIKA/ref=as_li_qf_sp_... ). I don't believe the current MBP can even drive an external 4K display, which is what I think the OP was referring to.
EDIT2: woah, I realized at that price, I really should be using an affiliate link where I get a kickback if anybody buys it. ;-)
My Retina MacBook Pro bogs down graphically all the time. Websites with a lot of position:fixed or transparent backgrounds are a common culprit. iPhoto is another one. I can't imagine how bad the Apple pro apps run.
HD over 3G/4G LTE cellular connection? The lag would in the order of a few seconds, which makes flying FPV extremely difficult. It also means a huge data bill unless I've been grandfathered into a "unlimited" data plan.
I think I'll just stick to some of the cheaper, well respected 5.8Ghz FPV setups.
As mentioned above, LTE latency really isn't that bad. Just most implementations on top of it usually result in high latency. I think we avoid this pretty good in our project.
Have you published any details about how you accomplished low latency? For example, you stated 150ms further up in this thread, what were the conditions for that test? Was it documented?
As sweet as low latency HD FPV would be, I'm hesitant to spend more money on a "newfangled" digital solution unless I I'm aware of such technical details.
I would suggest to read "The geeky stuff" section on our campaign page, it explains how we achieve low latency. If you want to know specific details I am happy to elaborate.
My point too, the text is very unreadable. On the homepage they have the green background and white text with some effects, you barely can read it before your eyes start to hurt.
