Get the feeling with the pending IPO, there might be some challengers to discord that get more traction due to the protracted enshittification of the platform (cf. bluesky)

I run a lot of small form factor (SFF) machines including NUCs, Minisforums, and a Mac Studio.

At idle, they aren't loud or consuming much electricity compared to sleep/shutdown.

Fruit co devices in particular are extremely efficient; the Studio is rated at 6W idle, 145W max consumption (cf. https://support.apple.com/en-us/102027 )

Your username checks out re: moving to Scandinavia haha

Love cachyos. Such a great OS. Wanted to love bazzite, but it's got too many opinionated takes and rpm-ostree is a PITA. pacman does have its pitfalls, but aside from upgrades, it's been appliance-level stable for a 100% gaming laptop docked to my tv

cachyos has been nearly flawless for a non-steam deck (gpd win mini 2). Upgrades broke my tv being set to the primary display under gamemode but that was an easy fix.

The other game changer (heh) was going all in on amd: cpu, integrated gpu, and discrete gpu via oculink.

Nvidia may be the best overall performance for gaming and ai workloads, it still doesn't play nice with linux gaming

I mostly agree with you. Now with proton/steamos, the only games that need windows are multiplayer games with kernel-level anticheat mechanisms (e.g., destiny 2).

Otherwise, spot-on to my MO

I used to love Netflix when they started out as DVD mailers. Except when the postal service shattered "Fear and Loathing" pushing its viewing out by days. At one point was renting three movies at a time!

So much better than Blockbuster or Hollywood Video. Was able to see an exponential amount of foreign films, documentaries, and indie films that weren't popular enough to stock in brick and mortar shops. For less money.

Think Netflix jumped the shark well over a decade ago. Remember they had star ratings and good recommendations that weren't heavily monetized outside of keeping you on the platform itself.

Another merger isn't going to roll back the clock.

Thanks for the new word re: prolix! Couldn't quite pin down why heavily AI generated posts/documentation felt off — aside from an amorphous _feeling_ — until today.

Thanks for this. Used Firefox since 1.0. Donate to their non-profit arm every month.

Chrome is openly hostile to users and Safari is such a vanilla experience with poorly implemented extensions.

Until Ladybird drops, I don't plan on switching browsers.

Same! I remember when Firefox 2 and 3 were major marketing and media events, and the subject of great excitement from users almost akin to the release of a new iPhone.

I think it's unfortunate we got away from that cadence though I'm sure it was for good reasons I don't fully appreciate.

Ladybird might be a good alternative in a couple years
